James E. “Jay” McKee, Professor Emeritus
I taught a variety of business courses at Champlain College from 1978 to 2015, most notably marketing and advertising. I managed internships since their inception at Champlain. I was named outstanding teacher. While at Champlain, I progressed from assistant through associate to full professor. In addition to serving on a large number of faculty senate committees, I served as President of the Faculty Senate early in my career.
Upon my retirement, one of my former students started a scholarship in my name.
My community involvement includes The Kelley Marketing Group, which advises non-profits in their Marketing. For more than thirty years, Kelley has worked successfully with hundreds of non profits in our area.
I am one of the founding members of the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival. Over the years I have worked with The Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce, The Discover Jazz Festival, First Night Burlington and The Special Olympics. With Smugglers’ Notch, Champlain co-hosted the International Winter Special Olympics. I headed up the celebrity/VIP committee.
In 1985 I began leading bicycle tours with Vermont Bicycle Touring Company. These tours were in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and Massachusetts. Beginning in 1990 I led tours in Ireland and England, first with VBT and then with Bike Vermont, now called Discovery Bicycle Tours. I led tours in Ireland for nineteen consecutive summers.
In 1977-78, I was Director of Local Marketing for Smugglers’ Notch, where I was responsible for the successful season pass and badge program and all day group business.
My previous experience was in the entertainment and sports industries. I served as an officer in the Army National Guard.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Lawrence University and an MBA from SUNY Buffalo.
